New Delhi, February 14: According to a recent report by JPMorgan’s Asia Pacific Equity Research team, artificial intelligence (AI) is unlikely to replace IT service companies anytime soon. Instead of downsizing the IT industry, AI will assist companies in achieving more work within the same budget.
JPMorgan’s report suggests that fears of AI eliminating IT companies are exaggerated. It states that AI will not reduce opportunities for IT firms but will generate new avenues in various sectors. The brokerage firm compares AI to previous technological shifts, such as offshore labor, enterprise software, and cloud computing.
In all these cycles, new technology did not eliminate IT services; rather, it transformed how companies operate. The report indicates that AI will play a similar role, enabling firms to handle more projects without increasing their budgets.
JPMorgan highlights a growing demand for modernizing legacy systems, rewriting customized SaaS applications, creating AI agents for operations, ensuring trust and reliability in AI systems, and integrating physical AI solutions. It also notes that strong IT service support will be essential in these areas.
The report points out that enterprise technology teams often have less funding than business expectations. In this scenario, AI is likely to be used to enhance productivity rather than completely transform IT companies.
The brokerage warns against the oversimplified belief that AI can automatically create enterprise-grade software and replace the integration and customization tasks performed by IT companies. This is unlikely to happen.
IT firms are viewed as the “plumbers of the tech world,” emphasizing their crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of complex systems within large organizations.
According to the report, recent market weakness in IT stocks reflects investor concerns that rapid advancements in AI could slow revenue growth and reduce the overall market potential for Indian IT companies.
