Ahmedabad Identifies 45 Heat Hotspots Amidst Severe Heat Wave

Ahmedabad, May 8: Ahmedabad is bracing for extreme heat over the next week, with temperatures expected to soar up to 44 degrees Celsius. Authorities have identified 45 heat hotspots throughout the city.

Municipal officials have announced that residents can access information about these hotspots and the maximum temperature in specific areas through a QR code-based system implemented under the city’s heat response initiative.

This system will provide estimated temperatures from noon to 5 PM, which is considered the hottest part of the day.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has urged citizens to take precautions against the extreme heat and dehydration. Residents are advised to carry water bottles while traveling outdoors and to regularly consume fluids such as water, lemonade, buttermilk, and coconut water.

The advisory also recommends eating fresh fruits and vegetables while avoiding spicy foods, stale items, excessive protein, tea, coffee, and carbonated drinks.

Citizens are encouraged to stay indoors as much as possible between noon and 4 PM, wear loose-fitting, light-colored cotton clothing, and use umbrellas, hats, or scarves when outside.

The corporation has also advised those working outdoors to take regular breaks and rest in cool areas.

AMC has called for special attention to be given to children, the elderly, and pregnant women, as they are more vulnerable to prolonged exposure to heat.

Additionally, the municipal body has released a list of symptoms related to heatstroke and heat-related illnesses, including excessive sweating, weakness, headaches, dizziness, red and dry skin, muscle pain, nausea, and vomiting.

Individuals experiencing these symptoms are advised to seek medical assistance immediately, and in emergencies, they should contact the 108 ambulance service.
