Kolkata, May 11: Agnimitra Paul, a newly appointed minister in West Bengal’s BJP government, has made it clear that her party is focused on service rather than governance.
In a recent conversation, Paul launched a sharp critique against the Trinamool Congress (TMC), asserting that the party’s existence will soon come to an end. She stated, “We are here to serve, not to rule.”
Targeting the TMC, she emphasized that the people of Bengal do not give a second chance to parties they oust from power. “The TMC has become irrelevant. In the coming days, this party will no longer exist. We have significant goals ahead, so we do not waste time on negative issues,” she added.
Regarding the potential entry of TMC leaders into the BJP, Paul made a notable statement. She mentioned that the party leadership has already clarified that for the next month, there will be no discussions about incorporating anyone from the TMC into the BJP. “Our top leadership, state president Sukanta Majumdar, and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari have made it clear before the elections that for the next month, no one from the TMC will be included. After that, the organization will decide who to welcome into the party and who not to,” she explained.
Recently appointed as a cabinet minister in the Suvendu government, Agnimitra Paul has previously served as an MLA. She expressed her commitment to work under the guidance of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
Before entering politics, Agnimitra Paul was a prominent name in the fashion design industry. She stepped into active politics in 2019, gaining her first significant opportunity in the film industry through actress Sridevi’s recommendation. She designed costumes for Esha Deol’s debut film, “Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe.”
In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, Agnimitra Paul strengthened her political foothold by winning the Asansol South seat by a significant margin.
