Kharagpur, July 29: Minister Dilip Ghosh addressed ongoing student movements in West Bengal, stating that protests by students are not a new phenomenon in the state. Students have frequently taken to the streets over various issues, becoming a part of the political culture here.
In a conversation with reporters, Ghosh emphasized that while students have the right to protest democratically, there are individuals who attempt to hijack these movements for their own interests. He warned that strict legal action will be taken against those who take the law into their own hands or engage in violent activities. The role of individuals involved in the protests, apart from students, will be investigated, and action will be taken against those found guilty. He cautioned that those disrupting law and order under the guise of protests will not be spared.
Responding to a statement by AIMIM’s national spokesperson Waris Pathan, Ghosh labeled him a “habitual protester,” asserting that some individuals are always on the lookout for issues to ignite protests. According to him, the public has now recognized such individuals.
Regarding a question related to BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s comments, Ghosh noted that students in West Bengal are protesting against the CJP, and the public will hold accountability in such matters. He alleged that some protesters have misbehaved with the police and even attacked police personnel.
Additionally, on development projects in Kharagpur, the minister mentioned that initiatives under the ‘Developed India’ campaign include the construction of drains, cleaning of old drains and sewers, and addressing waterlogging issues. He acknowledged that waterlogging is a serious and recurring problem in Bengal. The government plans to provide relief to the people through these projects, ensuring that local residents benefit directly once the work commences.
