Abhishek Porels Bail Revoked in Rape Case, Sent to Police Custody

Hubli, August 11: Wicketkeeper-batsman Abhishek Porel faces increasing legal troubles. He appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Chinsurah on Tuesday, where his bail was revoked. The court has ordered the Bengal cricketer to be held in police custody for three days.

On June 23, a young woman studying medicine in Karnataka filed a complaint against the Indian Premier League (IPL) player at the Mogra police station. Reports indicate that Abhishek had been in a relationship with her for approximately three and a half years. The victim alleges that he promised to marry her, and they even traveled abroad together. However, their relationship began to deteriorate over time.

About a year and a half ago, their disputes escalated to the point where police intervention was necessary, but no formal complaint was made at that time. When tensions rose again, the woman filed a formal complaint at the Mogra police station.

The Mogra police initiated an investigation and visited the cricketer’s residence in Chandan Nagar multiple times, but Abhishek was not found. Eventually, the victim approached the Calcutta High Court, which ordered the cricketer’s arrest. Following this, the Mogra police apprehended him and presented him in Chinsurah court on Tuesday.

Abhishek Porel made his IPL debut in 2023 and has played 35 matches for the Delhi Capitals across four seasons, scoring 769 runs at an average of 25.63, including four half-centuries.

The left-handed player has participated in 32 first-class matches, accumulating 1,408 runs at an average of 31.28, with one century and 12 half-centuries. In 23 List-A matches, Abhishek has scored 833 runs, including two centuries and five half-centuries.
