AAP Faces Another Setback in Punjab as Amritsar North MLA Resigns

AAP MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap resigns, citing dissatisfaction with party leadership and calling for a progressive Punjab.

Amritsar, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suffered another significant blow in Punjab with the resignation of Kunwar Vijay Pratap, the MLA from Amritsar North. His departure follows the earlier resignations of two party legislators from Patiala district. Reports indicate that Pratap has been unhappy with the party leadership for some time, prompting his decision to step down.

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh had previously been suspended from AAP in June 2025 for five years. He has openly criticized the functioning of both the party leadership and the Punjab government.

In a post on X, he addressed his constituents, saying, “To my brothers and sisters in Amritsar, I have resigned from my membership in the Punjab Assembly. I will remain indebted to you for the love and respect you have shown me. With your support and God’s blessings, we must work together. We need to rise above petty politics and ribbon-cutting ceremonies. Punjab is ensnared in a web of drugs, extortion, thuggery, and corruption. We must strive to rebuild it into a progressive and prosperous state.”

Pratap further stated, “As you all know, I have achieved 90 percent of my goals as a legislator, completing all the tasks expected of me. The roles of councilors, mayors, and MPs differ significantly. I have provided a detailed account of my work, which is available in newspapers and on my Facebook page. My greatest achievement has been eradicating the ‘my-master’ culture in politics and prioritizing the public as my inspiration.”

He emphasized that he has consistently voiced the concerns of Amritsar’s residents in the Punjab Assembly. He addressed issues ranging from water and sewage problems to local infrastructure and the infamous Bargari sacrilege case. “For the first time, someone in the Punjab Assembly has raised specific local issues by name. Together, we must strategize for the future, ensuring clean politics and transparent governance. My sole aim is ‘Punjab first,’ with no personal interests involved,” he added.

Earlier, two other AAP legislators from Patiala, Harmit Singh Pathanmajra and Chetan Singh Jodhamajra, also resigned from the party, further complicating AAP’s position in the region.
