New Delhi, June 5: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised serious concerns regarding the devastating fire in Malviya Nagar and the building collapse in Saket. AAP leader and opposition head in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Ankush Narang, directly held the BJP-led Delhi government and the MCD administration responsible for both incidents, demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Mayor Pravesh Wahi.
Narang stated that the tragic fire in Malviya Nagar claimed the lives of 21 individuals, with over 40 others injured. He described the incident as deeply distressing and alarming, attributing it to administrative negligence and a disregard for safety standards. According to him, such occurrences reflect the government’s failure, despite having a “four-engine government” in Delhi.
He claimed that he had previously written to the MCD Commissioner and Mayor on December 9, referencing a similar fire incident in Goa. Narang urged for a fire safety inspection and review of NOCs for all hotels, restaurants, and homestays in Delhi.
Narang accused the administration of failing to take concrete steps despite his warning, leading to this significant tragedy in the capital. He questioned why the fire department did not respond promptly, despite a fire station being nearby. According to Narang, the fire brigade arrived over an hour after receiving the alert at 8 AM.
He called for accountability from the relevant authorities, alleging that corruption involving some BJP-affiliated leaders and officials has led to a neglect of safety regulations.
He emphasized that while buildings are collapsing and fires are breaking out across Delhi, the administration is failing to conduct necessary inspections and safety audits. Narang insisted that both Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and MCD Mayor should resign, taking moral responsibility for the situation.
He concluded by stating that instead of ensuring public safety, the government is preoccupied with corruption and political gains, resulting in ordinary citizens paying the ultimate price with their lives.
