Udaipur’s Traffic System Faces Frequent Overhauls, Tourists and Locals Express Discontent
Udaipur, January 22: The traffic management in Udaipur, often referred to as the “City of Lakes,” has recently come under scrutiny due to abrupt and inconsistent changes implemented by traffic authorities. What started as an attempt to streamline the city’s traffic flow has left both residents and tourists in a state of frustration and confusion.
Red Lights Removed, Chaos Ensues
Some time ago, certain traffic officers decided to switch the city’s traffic system to auto mode, removing red lights from key intersections. This decision, aimed at improving flow, backfired, causing traffic congestion and safety hazards at major junctions.
Residents reported that the absence of traffic signals led to confusion and accidents, especially during peak hours. “The city felt like it was running on an experiment, with no regard for the public’s convenience,” said a local shopkeeper near one of the affected intersections.
A Sudden U-Turn: Signals Being Reinstalled
In a surprising move, authorities have now begun reinstalling red lights at the same intersections. While this might indicate an acknowledgment of past mistakes, it has also raised questions about the planning and execution of traffic policies in Udaipur.
