New Delhi :The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday advised media houses, media platforms and online advertising intermediaries to refrain from airing advertisements and promotional material of betting platforms.
In an advisory issued on Thursday in this regard, the ministry has taken strong exception to the recent incidents of publishing advertisements and promotional material of betting websites in mainstream English and Hindi newspapers.
All media including newspapers, television channels and online news publishers Advisories have been issued for formats and specific examples of such advertisements have been shown in the media in the recent past. The ministry has also objected to a specific betting platform encouraging viewers to watch a sports league on its website, which is prima facie a violation of the Copyright Act, of 1957.
