Chennai, Apr 17 : Three people of one family, including a Dalit woman, were hacked to death by their relatives and two others injured following a property dispute in the sensitive southern Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu in broad daylight on Sunday. Police sources said four people were arrested in connection with the killings, which was a fall out of a property dispute between Jesuraj (74), a building contractor, and Azhagumuthu, both relatives. the murders took place when Azhagumuthu had reportedly dug a borewell on the ‘disputed’ site, triggering the ire of the rival group, which has been staking claim on the property. When Jesuraj, his younger brother Mariaraj (57) and sister Vasantha (41) went to Azhagumuthu and demanded explanation, a wordy duel ensued and it soon turned physical. Even as both the group clashed physically, Azhagumuthu and his son Rajamanikandan, accompanied by another relative Senthukumar and a few others ganged up and assaulted Jesuraj and others using deadly weapons. In the deadly attack, Mariaraj, Jesuraj and Vasantha died on the spot. Two others suffered multiple injuries and were admitted to a hospital. As a tense situation prevailed, heavy police pickets were posted in the locality to prevent and backlash. DIG of Police Pravesh Kumar, who visited the spot, told reporters that three special teams have been formed to nab the accused. GV 2008
