Kolkata, April 16 : Singer-turned-politician and ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Babul Supriyo on Saturday won the Ballygunge bypoll, beating his nearest Left Front challenger Saira Shah Halim by 20,038 votes. TMC’s Shatrughan Sinha has won from the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency. He won the seat by over 3 lakh votes against BJP’s Agnimitra Paul. After the final round of counting, Babul Supriyo got 50722 votes. Halim received 30818 votes while BJP’s Keya Ghosh came third with 12967 votes. Congress candidate Kamaruzzaman came fourth. In a series of tweet after won the Ballygunge bypoll, Supriyo said, “Thank you #Ballygunge. Thank you #Asansol I was confident #PoeticJustice will prevail & the next MP from Asansol will be from @AITCofficial & I will be back to serve you along with your Dashing New affable cordial ever smiling Hon’ble MP @ShatruganSinha ji.” “Wish to see the faces of those jealous BJP ‘Netas’ who never acknowledged my hard work for a place I love-Asansol & mocked me by saying, “Even a Matchstick standing for @BJP4India wud win in Asansol•Love you Asansol for serving them a Slap in a platter #RevengeIsAPureEmotion,” Supriyo said. “Heartiest Congrats to the Brand New Dashing Hon’ble MP of Asansol @ShatruganSinha ji for winning by 3L+ votes•Asansol proved that @BJP4India @BJP4Bengal was NEVER a factor, Babul’s sincerity was,” he said. “Humbly dedicate this win to Honble @MamataOfficial who so magnanimously inspired me back to Public Service, the exemplary @AITCofficial workers, @abhishekaitc @FirhadHakim Dada MLA Debashish Kumar and MalaRoy,” Supriyo added. TMC Vice president Yashwant Sinha on Saturday said that the BJP has lost all byelections by big margin. And if it had won, the credit would have gone to PM Modi but who will take credit for loss today. “Point to note in the byelection results today: BJP lost all the byelections and that too by huge margins. If it had won it would have been the personal victory of Modi. So whose loss is it today?” he asked. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul said, “There were some shortcomings from our end because of which we had to face defeat. Public’s verdict will be accepted. Few cases of rigging were seen at some places but central forces worked really well. We’ll work at grassroots levels in the forthcoming days.” BM KK
