Chennai, Apr 14 : The DMK Government headed by Chief Minister M K Stalin and its allies today boycotted the ‘At Home Reception’ organised by Governor R N Ravi opposing the delay in forwarding the Bill seeking exemption from NEET, to the President for his assent. The Governor unveiled a statue of Mahakavi Bharathiyar at Raj Bhavan and also hosted ‘At Home Reception’ to mark the Tamil New Year, in which barring the ruling DMK and its allies, leaders of other parties including the Opposition AIADMK, its ally the TMC, BJP, PMK and others participated. Senior BJP leader and on Minister L Murugan also participated in the function. Though invitations were sent to the Chief Minister, his Council of Ministers and leaders of all political parties, the State government boycotted the event opposing the delay in forwarding the Bill, unanimously passed in the State Assembly for the second time on February 8 (after the first Bill was returned to the government after 140 days for re-consideration), for Presidential assent. The government announced that it would boycott the event after Industries Minister Thangam Thennarasu and Health Minister Ma.Subramanian met the Governor earlier in the day on the advise of the Chief Minister to seek the status of the Bill. The Governor said the Bill was under his consideration, Thennarasu later told the media after the meeting. He said since the Governor did not respect the Assembly tradition as per the democratic principles, it would not be proper to participate in the ‘At Home Reception’ event. He said the Governor should have forwarded the Bill for Presidential assent. During the meeting, he also did not give any time frame or any assurance as to when he would forward the Bill. Toeing the DMK’s line, its allies, the Congress, VCK, CPi, CPI(M), MMK and MDMK also boycotted the reception. GV 1831
