New York, April 12 : Eight people were shot and eight others were injured during a shooting incident at a Brooklyn subway station on Tuesday morning, according to New York City Fire Department spokesperson Amanda Farinacci. “In regard to the multiple people shot at the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn, there are NO active explosive devices at this time,” New York City Police Department said in a tweet. US President Joe Biden has been briefed on the latest developments regarding the New York City subway shooting, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said. New Yorkers have been warned to avoid the Brooklyn area. All schools in the nearby area are on a “shelter in” order, which means no one is allowed to leave the building, and only students are allowed in, local media reported. “I am horrified by the attack in Brooklyn,” New York Representative Jerry Nadler said, adding that he is “closely monitoring” the situation and is comm cating with the FBI. An eyewitness told the local media that he saw a lot of blood on the floor – in the subway car where the shooting took place – and that gunshots sounded like fireworks. He estimated about 40 to 50 people were in the subway car with him. Another witness, identified as Claire, was quoted by the New York Post as saying that she “lost count” of the amount of shots fired. Media reports suggest the suspect was wearing an orange construction or Metropolitan Transportation Authority vest and possibly had a gas mask on.
