Srinagar, April 11 : A gun battle erupted between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir ‘s Kulgam district on Monday evening, officials said. They said the gun battle erupted at the Khurbatpora area during a cordon and search operation following an input about militants’ presence. “As the joint team of forces cordoned the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire triggering a gunfight,” a security official said. Police said joint forces are on the job. This is the second encounter in Kulgam in last three days. On Saturday, militants and forces exchanged brief firing at Chaki Samad, Damhal Hanjipora Kulgam during a cordon and search operation. However, militants had managed to escape the area. MJR SHK1947
