Sangli, Apr 9 : BJP’s Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis, on Saturday visited the shrine of Lord Biroba in Arewadi-Ban of the district on occasion of its annual fair and prayed to the presiding deity for well-being of State Transport employees, who are on strike for their various demands. Upon his arrival at Kolhapur airport, he went straight to Arewadi-Ban in the district to take ‘darshan’ of reverred deity of the Dhangar comm ty, God Biroba, in whose honour annual fair is organised and for which the members of Dhangar comm ty from the state and other neighbouring states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana throng in large numbers. While talking to reporters after offering his prayers to the deity, Fadnavis said that he prayed to God Biroba for the well-being of society, specially poor people, and not of any one person. The BJP leader further said that he also prayed that the ruling state government fulfil the demands of striking ST employees. He expressed joy over getting an opport ty to apply ‘bhandara’ of God Biroba and for being honoured with ‘Manacha Pheta’ (reverred headgear) and ‘Ghongadi’ (blanket).
