Mumbai, April 7 : The BSE Sensex remained negative for the third straight session on Thursday as it dropped 575.46 pts at 59,034.95 on heavy selling in Oil and gas, Energy, Utilities, Metal and Power stocks amid weak global cues. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too slipped 168.10 pts to close at 17,639.55. The Sensex opened lower by 208 pts at 59,402 pts. During the day, it plummeted 633 pts to reach 58,977.35, the day’s low, before closing at 59,034.95, down 575 pts from its previous close. The sensex registered day’s high and low at 59,504.92 and 58,977.35 pts respectively. The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 17,787.50 and 17,623.70 respectively. The Mid Cap fell by 0.42 pc and Small Cap by 0.75 pc. In the 30 scrips, 12 advanced while 18 declined. In 30 scrips, Titan fell by 3.24 pc to Rs 2458.95 followed by HDFC by 2.91 pc to Rs 2462.65, HDFC Bank by 2.19 pc to Rs 1516.90, Wipro by 2.13 pc to Rs 580.90 and TCS by 1.90 pc to Rs 3684.95. European stocks were seen choppy as the pan-European Stoxx 600 index was up 0.6 per cent. In the Asian markets, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and China fell between 0.7 per cent and 1.7 per cent.
