SL Parliament to special debate on ongoing crisis

Colombo, April 6 : The Sri Lankan Parliament will be holding a special debate on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing economic crisis situation. The decision to hold the meeting was announced on Tuesday during the party leaders meeting in Parliament. The Colombo Page quoted Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena as saying that there are two solutions to the current crisis — President resigning voluntarily to elect a president from the parliament, and forming an interim government. According to The Colombo Page, a motion regarding the dissolution of Parliament has also been submitted. Conducting election amid economic crisis has been opposed by several party leaders. The Wednesday’s debate will continue till April 7. Meanwhile, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has requested Ranjith Siyambalapitiya not to resign from Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Angajan Ramanathan from the post of Deputy Chairman of Committees. RNJ
