Sindhu clinches Swiss Open title

Basel, March 27 : Former world champion P V Sindhu clinched the Swiss Open Super 300 women’s singles title after defeating Busanan Ongbamrungpham of Thailand here on Sunday. Sindhu, who finished as runner-up last year, defeated Busanan 21-16, 21-8 in the final to clinch the Super 300 title. This was Sindhu’s second title of the year, after winning the Syed Modi International in January. The two-time Olympic medallist held massive 15-1 head-to-head record before heading to the match on Sunday. The opening game had an intense first half with Sindhu leading with a 2 point lead at the time of mid-game break, 11-9. Post break, Busanan did held a slender lead but Sindhu quickly recovered the deficit to make the game score 13-13. The tight contest continued, but Sindhu managed to hold a three-point lead, which Busanan reduced to one with her tricky play. With her smart deception and quick retrieval, Sindhu pocketed the first game 21-16 in 27 minutes of play. In the second game, Sindhu looked in a different zone as she raced to healthy 8-1 lead and headed on to breather with massive 9-point advantage,11-2. After break, Sindhu continued to control the game with 14-4 lead and made it almost impossible for Busanan to bounce back. Sindhu’s domination built pressure over Busanan, who committed plenty of errors, which the Indian successfully converted into her favour and wrapped up the win with 21-8. BAV RJ
