Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana calls off its indefinite ‘dharna’ agitation on 15th day

Kolhapur, Mar 8 : Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana national president and former MP Raju Shetty announced that he has decided to call off their indefinite ‘dharna’ agitation on 15th day on Tuesday, after Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut gave an assurance to him of studying their main demand of 10-hour electricity supply during the day to the farmers. In a meeting held with Shetty in Mumbai yesterday, Raut promised that he would constitute a committee to study their demand. The Minister also gave a direction to immediately revise the erroneous electricity bills of the farmers. After yesterday’s meeting, the SSS chief called an urgent meeting of its senior leaders and workers, farmers at agitation site and after discussion, announced his decision to call off their indefinite ‘dharna’ agitation on 15th day. However, he gave a warning that the state government should take a positive decision on their main demand within next 15 days, otherwise they would continue their fight and even take a decision of intensifying their agitation in a SSS state working committee’s meeting scheduled to be held here on April 5. While announcing the decision to the gathering, Shetty said that the government can supply electricity to farmers for agri purpose during the day. Farmers are not demanding electricity for free but during the day, he added. SSS SS 1912
