Lucknow, March 8 : The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court on Tuesday granted bail to Samajwadi Party MP Mohammad Azam Khan in a forgery case. Azam Khan, who is MP from Rampur, is lodged in Sitapur jail for the past two years on the charges of several cases of land grabbing and cheating cases. The High Court has granted him the bail in a forgery case. However, he will not step out of the jail as there are two cases still pending against him. A single bench of Justice Ramesh Sinha granted Khan bail in a case in which chargesheet has been filed against the SP leader under section 505(2) of IPC in connection with a case of abuse of office by misusing government letter pad and seal. On behalf of the defense before the court, it was pleaded that that Azam Khan has been in jail for a long time and the charge against him is testable by the Magistrate Court. Apart from this, the matter is politically motivated, the defence alleged. On the other hand, opposing the bail, the public prosecutor argued that the report of this case against Azam Khan was filed by the plaintiff Allama Jamir Naqvi on February 1, 2019 at Hazratganj Kotwali. In which, it has been said that the incident is related to the year 2014 but due to the influence of the government, its report was not registered. Samajwadi Party’s firebrand leader MP Azam Khan surrendered in court on 26 February 2020. Along with him, his wife city MLA Dr. Tajim Fatma and son Abdullah Azam also appeared in the court. The court sent all three to jail. Tazin Fatma was released on bail after ten months and Abdullah after 23 months. Azam Khan is still in Sitapur Jail. MB GK
