Panaji, March 4 : Former Army Chief General (Retd) and former Punjab Governor S th Francis Rodrigues passed away on Friday. He was 88. Born in 1943 in Bombay, he remained the Chief of Army Staff between 1990 and 1993. He originally hailed from Curtorim in South Goa. Rodrigues was Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the on Territory of Chandigarh from 2004 to 2010. He also served as the Director of International Centre Goa (ICG) for nearly six years. Funerals with full military honours are likely to be held on Sunday, sources said. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat expressed grief over the demise of the former Army Staff. ”Saddened by the demise of Former Chief of #IndianArmy Staff General S. F. Rodrigues, who also served as Governor of Punjab from 2004 to 2010. His family belonged to Curtorim in Goa & all Goans are proud of his service to our motherland. Heartfelt condolences to the family,” Sawant tweeted. ”Saddened by the passing away of former Army Chief & former Governor of Punjab, General S th Francis Rodrigues.
