Father-son killed, 3 injured in ambulance-trailer collision in Udaipur

Udaipur : Two persons, who were father and son, were killed while three hurt in an ambulance-trailer head-on collision on Gogunda-Pindwara Highway on Sunday evening. The accident took place near Chorbawdi under Gogunda police station limits of Udaipur district. The trailer which was laden with coal crossed the divider and hit an ambulance that was coming from the opposite direction on the other lane.

” A 45-year old compounder from Sirohi and his 14-year old son who were seated in the ambulance were killed while the ambulance driver and another man from the medical department sustained injuries who were rushed to Udaipur hospital. Prem Dhande, Circle Officer, Gogunda told Udaipur Kiran. The ambulance driver initially told the police that they were only two persons in the vehicle when the accident took place, leaving the police puzzled as they could not make out how the child fell prey to the accident at the spot. Later it was revealed by the ambulance driver that they had given lift to the father-son duo and didnt tell the truth fearing that it could give rise to insurance related complications, the police officer said.

The ambulance was going towards Sirohi while the trailer approached from the opposite direction. According to sources, the trailer was laden with coal. It was going down the steep road and the vehicle was in neutral gear. Suddenly the driver lost control over the vehicle and the trailer crossed its lane and collided with the ambulance.

The trailer overturned and the driver was badly caught inside the chamber. Police, highway patrolling team and villagers struggled for an hour to cut the the trailer’s front side and rescue the driver who is admitted in the Udaipur civil hospital. Gogunda SDM Jitendra Pandey, Tehsildar Vimlendra Singh, Gogunda SHO Madan Singh Chohan and others supervised the rescue operation to pull out the dead bodies and injured people from the ambulance as well as the trailer.
