New Delhi, February 27: A healthy heart is essential for a safe and happy life. However, maintaining heart health can be challenging amidst irregular routines and rising pollution levels. Fortunately, small lifestyle changes can help prevent heart diseases and keep the heart strong.

According to the National Health Mission, the heart is a vital organ. Adopting a healthy lifestyle and prioritizing health is crucial. Simple habits and daily commitments can significantly impact heart care. Key elements include a balanced diet, regular exercise, quality sleep, and stress management.

The National Health Mission has provided some easy and effective tips to strengthen and maintain heart health:

1. Eat a Balanced Diet: Incorporate fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, and low-fat dairy products into your daily meals. Avoid fried foods, excessive salt, sugar, and processed foods. Green vegetables and fruits are particularly beneficial for heart health.

2. Stay Away from Smoking and Tobacco: Completely avoid cigarettes, bidis, gutkha, or any form of tobacco, as they harm the heart’s arteries. Quitting reduces the risk of heart disease significantly.

3. Get Quality Sleep: Aim for 7-8 hours of good sleep each night. Lack of sleep can increase blood pressure and put pressure on the heart.

4. Manage Stress: Reduce stress through daily practices like meditation, yoga, deep breathing, or engaging in hobbies. Prolonged stress can be dangerous for the heart.

5. Exercise Regularly: Aim for at least 30-40 minutes of physical activity each day. Activities like brisk walking, cycling, swimming, or yoga strengthen the heart and help maintain weight.

6. Limit Alcohol Consumption: Excessive alcohol intake can raise blood pressure and weaken heart muscles. It’s best to limit or completely avoid alcohol.

By incorporating these habits, individuals can significantly enhance their heart health and overall well-being.
