Bengaluru, April 4 : on Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani on Monday said that 300 more OSCs will be set up in districts, where the crime rate against women is high. She also hinted at the Central government’s plans to set up One-Stop Centres (OSCs) beyond the 10 countries already identified that are aimed at servicing the security needs of Indian women living abroad. “So far, as many as 70 lakh plus women who have been victims of violence, have received help from 704 OSCs,” Irani told reporters here. The ministry has identified 10 countries: Australia, Canada, Singapore, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, UAE, and Saudi Arabia, where OSCs will be set up. These countries have been identified by MEA, based on the Indian diaspora population and that these centres will be run by MEA, though they will be funded by the WCD Ministry. These centres aim to help women overseas, who are victims of violence or are simply stuck due to particular situations. They can approach these centres for immediate as well as non-immediate support, including legal aid, medical support and counselling. BDN RJ
