Lucknow : Hours after Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the Yogi Adityanath cabinet, three state BJP MLAs on Tuesday quit the party.
The MLAs who have resigned from the party’s membership are Brajesh Prajapati ( Tindwari in Banda), Bhagwati Prasad Sagar (Bilhaur in Kannauj) and Roshan Lal Verma( Tilhar in Shahjahanpur).
Talking to UNI, Roshan Lal Verma said that all three MLAs have sent their resignation letters to the party high command.
Verma added that Swami Prasad Maurya was their leader and they would follow his path.
These three MLAs, who had switched to BJP from BSP before 2017 assembly polls, are expected to join the SP.
Earlier in the day, in a major set back to the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh, state cabinet minister Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the Yogi Adityanath cabinet.
In his letter to Governor Anandiben Patel, the Labour, Employment and Coordination Minister said despite adverse circumstances and ideology, he has discharged the responsibility with great dedication.
Later talking to UNI, Maurya confirmed his resignation but refused to disclose his future political venture.
For the past couple of months, rumours have been rife that Maurya might join the Samajwadi Party.
Earlier, BJP MLA from Nanpara in Bahriach Ms Madhuri Verma and Radha Krishna Sharma from Bilsi seat in Badaun joined the SP.
