Mumbai, February 25: In a significant operation, the Versova police station in the Andheri West area of Mumbai has arrested 25 Bangladeshi nationals. According to police reports, these individuals were living in India illegally and had established their residence in Mumbai for several years.
Among those arrested, there are 21 transgender individuals, two women, and two men. Police officials revealed that they received a tip-off indicating that these individuals were gathering at a shrine on Yari Road late at night. Acting on this information, the Anti-Terror Cell (ATC) team from Versova police conducted a raid and took all suspects into custody. During the operation, a large number of Indian and Bangladeshi documents were seized.
Initial investigations indicate that all accused had illegally entered India from Bangladesh, first reaching Kolkata before traveling through Delhi and Gujarat to Mumbai. Upon their arrival in Mumbai, they had also obtained fake Indian identification cards and other documents. The police are now investigating who was involved in the preparation of these documents and identifying others connected to this network.
The Versova police have registered cases against all accused under relevant sections of the law and have initiated the process to deport them back to Bangladesh. Authorities stated that further investigations are ongoing to uncover additional members of this group and to take strict action against other foreign nationals residing illegally. The police have emphasized that their campaign against illegal residents will continue, and they are currently interrogating these individuals to locate more undocumented persons in the city.
A police officer noted that a dedicated team had already been formed to locate illegal residents, and they are actively taking action against them.
