Baramulla : The terrorists, who were killed in an encounter on Friday in Yedipora area of Pattan in Baramulla district, were planning an attack on the Army’s Agnipath recruitment rally in the district. Senior Superintendent of Police Rais Mohi-U-Din Bhat informed in a press conference.
SSP Baramulla said that the slain terrorists had come to Baramulla to attack the army’s recruitment rally, which is going on in the district’s 10 Sector Headquarters Haiderbeg. Based on an intelligence input, a joint cordon and search operation was launched in the area and contact was established with the terrorists hiding during the search, he said. He said that both the terrorists were killed during the encounter. He said that the plot of a major attack has been foiled due to timely action. The SSP said that the identity of the slain terrorists is being ascertained.
The SSP said that an AK-74U, which is a new version of the AK-47, has been recovered from the encounter site. Apart from this, one AK rifle, three magazines, magazine along with pistol and two bullets were also recovered, he said.
Earlier, ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar had said that two local Jaish terrorists were killed in the Baramulla encounter.
