19 Students Suspended for Ragging at Jodhpur Medical College
Following serious allegations of ragging, 19 students at Jodhpur Medical College have been suspended to ensure a safe educational environment.

Jodhpur, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : In a recent incident at Jodhpur’s Dr. S.N. Medical College, the administration has suspended 19 individuals, including a junior resident, due to allegations of ragging and misconduct involving junior MBBS students. This action follows a similar incident reported in Barmer, Rajasthan.
The suspensions include five students and one junior resident, who will be barred from college activities for three months. The remaining 14 students face a one-month suspension. During this time, they will not be allowed to participate in clinical postings, academic activities, or access college facilities, including hostels, libraries, and reading rooms.
The decision came after a complaint was lodged with the University Grants Commission (UGC) Anti-Ragging Helpline. An investigation by the college’s anti-ragging committee found the accused students guilty of severe misconduct, including inappropriate behavior and exerting undue pressure on junior students. Consequently, the principal’s office issued the suspension orders.
According to the complaint, first-year MBBS students reported being intimidated, humiliated, and subjected to improper treatment by senior students. They were also forced to adhere to arbitrary rules regarding their appearance and conduct.
The controversy began on October 28 during a “Clean Campus Drive” held on campus, where junior students alleged that seniors pressured them to maintain a clean-shaven look, adopt specific hairstyles, stand for extended periods, and wear formal attire.
In response to the incident, students contacted the UGC’s Anti-Ragging Helpline, prompting the college administration to initiate an investigation. The administration’s actions aim to curb ragging and ensure a safe educational environment for new students.
Previously, the Government Medical College in Barmer took disciplinary action against 80 students following complaints that seniors sent inappropriate WhatsApp messages, mistreated juniors, and caused psychological distress. This action was based on findings from the college’s anti-ragging committee.
