New Delhi, May 6 — The West Indies Cricket Board has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against Ireland and England. The squad, revealed on Monday, features most of the players who clinched a 3-0 whitewash over Bangladesh last December, with the notable absence of Shimron Hetmyer due to IPL commitments. Young batting talent Jewell Andrew makes his return to the ODI setup, while rising star Amir Jangoo continues to solidify his place in the squad.

Shai Hope to Lead, Focus on Amir Jangoo
Shai Hope will once again lead the Caribbean side, aiming to build on the momentum gained from recent series victories. Brandon King and Evin Lewis are expected to open the innings, with Keacy Carty likely to bat at number three.
All eyes will be on Amir Jangoo, who announced his arrival in international cricket with a century off 79 balls on debut in St. Kitts. His inclusion marks a strategic move toward strengthening the middle order ahead of the 2027 ICC World Cup qualification campaign.
Injury Comebacks and Bowling Reinforcements
The squad sees the return of pacers Shamar Joseph and Matthew Forde, both fully fit after missing the Bangladesh series. The pace attack will be led by Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, and Romario Shepherd, offering a balanced blend of pace and swing.
Spin responsibilities will likely be shared by Gudakesh Motie and Roston Chase, providing crucial options in the subcontinent-style conditions of Dublin and the swinging pitches of England.
2027 World Cup Qualification Drive Begins
West Indies are currently ranked ninth in the ICC ODI standings and are keen to improve their positioning to secure direct qualification for the 2027 World Cup. The ODI series against Ireland begins May 21 in Dublin, followed by a three-match ODI and T20 series against England starting May 29.
Head coach Daren Sammy emphasized the team’s direction, stating, “We’ve seen real growth and consistency after the Bangladesh and England series wins. The challenges in Ireland and England will test us, but our cricketing identity is evolving in the right direction toward the World Cup.”
Coaching Changes Announced
The West Indies coaching staff also sees significant changes. Former West Indies pacer Ravi Rampaul replaces James Franklin as bowling coach, while Kevin O’Brien, the former Irish all-rounder, will join the support staff specifically for the Ireland leg of the tour.
