Weather Update : New Western Disturbance to Bring Rain and Cold Wave Across Northern India, Including Uttar Pradesh
UP Rain, Weather Update, 16 January: With the cold wave continuing to grip northern India, including Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to impact the region. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall and colder temperatures are forecast for the next few days, particularly in states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana.
Rain and Weather Alert for States
The IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall for various states:
- January 16: Rain in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.
- January 17: Rain expected to persist in Himachal Pradesh.
- January 18–22: A new Western Disturbance will bring snow and rain to the western Himalayan region, including states like Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Severe weather warnings include:
- Thunderstorms in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Western UP.
- Snowfall in the Himalayan regions.
- Dense fog in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh until January 17.
Impact on Temperatures
Northern India is already witnessing a significant drop in temperatures:
- Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh: Sub-zero temperatures.
- Himachal Pradesh: Minimum temperatures ranging between 1°C and 4°C.
- Northwestern Plains: Minimum temperatures recorded between 6°C and 10°C.
- Central and Eastern India: Minimum temperatures between 10°C and 15°C.
Rajasthan’s Nagaur district recorded the lowest temperature of 3.7°C in the plains.
Further Drop in Temperatures
IMD has forecasted that:
- Northwestern India will see a 2–3°C drop in minimum temperatures over the next two days.
- After January 18, temperatures in the region may rise by 2–4°C.
- Gujarat will experience a 2–3°C rise in minimum temperatures over the next three days.
Fog Advisory
- Dense to very dense fog is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Eastern Rajasthan until January 17.
- Northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will also experience dense fog from January 17–20.
