Udaipur : The police force in Dungarpur, failed on Monday, to pacify hundreds of tribal youths who have been staging protest atop Kakri-Dungri hills between Bichhiwada-Kherwada route for almost a week now. As their ‘Mahapadav’ entered the fifth day on Monday, cops tried to climb up and disperse the unlawful assembly of men and women who are armed with bows-arrows, Gophan and other weapons. However, seeing the police approaching, the tribals staged a vehement protest, shouted slogans and threatened to hang themselves.
Few of them even got ready to put the rope around their necks shouting that the administration would be responsible for any casualty as they were being deterred from their rights of peaceful protest. Seeing the aggression, cops had to retreat. The tribals have been protesting here on their demand to be recruited on the 1167 posts lying vacant under the REET 2018- Level One. The protestors had warned to block the national highway and have been waiting for a chance to get down. However, because of the tight policing and battalions stationed everywhere, the agitators have been unsuccessful in their attempts.
“Our people are peacefully organizing the dharna but the police is trying to instigate us. They are threatening villagers not to let the protestors collect water from the handpump nor letting us to arrange food so that they end the ‘mahapadav’, Vikram Katara, one of the youth informed. The protestors also said that none of the legislators or the MP came to mediate while it is the police who is holding mediation talks since day one of the dharna. They refused to speak to the police and said that unless the government agrees to their demand, the mahapadav would continue.
The issue- The state government had advertisement No. 2/2018 dated 12.04.2018 for recruitment to of 5431 Teachers Grade-III (Level-I) – General Education and 72 teachers Grade-III (Level-I) -Special Education for TSP area. The minimum qualification indicated was Senior Secondary with BSTC and having passed Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (‘REET’)/RTET. After completion of the process, the State issued the cut-off list on 01.06.2018. In terms of the cut off list, all the candidates, who had applied as TSP (General), TSP (SC) and TSP (ST) (widow and divorcee), were selected and the cut-off for male and female TSP (ST) was indicated as 51.33% marks. As against 5431 posts, for the TSP area advertised, the State issued a select list for only 4264 posts, resulting in 1167 posts remaining unfilled.
