Tragedy In Udaipur: Siblings Perish In Hut Fire

April 17, 2025 Udaipur, Rajasthan — A devastating fire in a mud-thatched hut in Udaipur’s Patia police station area, Chhatri village, claimed the lives of two minor siblings on Wednesday night. Despite desperate efforts by their parents, only two of the family’s four children could be rescued in time. The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, though initial accounts suggest a fallen electrical wire may be responsible.

Fire Engulfs Entire Home in Minutes

Prabhulal Gameti (48) and his wife Pushpa (42) lived with their four children in a mud and tarp house near their roadside tea-snack stall. At night, a fire suddenly broke out in the house. The parents managed to rescue two children, but 14-year-old daughter Jeenal and 8-year-old son Siddharth were trapped inside and burned alive.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying. Both children’s bodies were found completely charred, resembling coal. Locals rushed to extinguish the flames, but the fire spread too rapidly for rescue efforts to succeed.

Parents Suffer Burns, Hospitalized in Dungarpur

The injured parents, who tried repeatedly to save their trapped children, sustained serious burns and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dungarpur. Their two surviving children — Sumit (10) and Sakina (9) — were saved moments before the fire consumed the entire hut.

According to Geeta Bai, Prabhulal’s sister-in-law, the fire may have started when an overhead electric wire fell onto the hut’s roof, which was covered with plastic tarpaulin and dry materials. This caused an instant ignition, leading to a rapid spread of the fire.

Community in Shock, Investigation Underway

Station House Officer Devendra Singh confirmed the deaths of the siblings, both of whom were students at a local government school — Jeenal in 8th grade, and Siddharth in 3rd grade. Their bodies have been taken to Khairwara Hospital for post-mortem.

The police are still investigating the exact cause of the fire, though electrical malfunction is suspected.

The entire village has been left grieving and shaken by the tragedy. Locals are calling for urgent assistance for the surviving family members, who lost not only their children but also their home and livelihood in the fire.
