The constitutional committee was established with the aim of of reforming the Constitution, before it is put to the vote of the Syrian people and arrived at the decision of beginning its close-door discussions process to end the long-lasting crisis in the country.
The decision to establish the Syrian Constitutional Committee was adopted in Sochi, Russia on January 2018.
After the first session of the 150-member Committee, a smaller drafting body of 45 with even representation of the Syrian government, opposition and the civil society will stay in Geneva to continue their work in details.
