
Mumbai, June 9: The highly anticipated film ‘Partition 1947’ featuring Sunny Deol has released its first motion poster. Initially titled ‘Lahore 1947’, the filmmakers have rebranded it with a new identity. The motion poster has sparked excitement among audiences as it delves into the backdrop of the 1947 partition.
The motion poster opens with visuals of burning papers, symbolizing the devastation and chaos of that era. Following this, Sunny Deol is seen running amidst turmoil and violence, surrounded by crowds and riots.
In the latter part of the poster, Deol appears in a different light, holding a burning torch and standing at the forefront. He is depicted protecting his family, with Preity Zinta and others visible behind him. The background is filled with tension and conflict.
Sunny Deol shared the motion poster on social media, stating, “In times of fear and hatred, they chose courage. The film will release in theaters on August 14, 2026. Be sure to watch it in cinemas.”
Directed by renowned filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, ‘Partition 1947’ is produced under Aamir Khan Productions. This film marks a reunion between Sunny Deol and Santoshi, who previously collaborated on iconic films like ‘Ghayal’ and ‘Damini’.
The story is set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan partition in 1947, focusing on the lives of ordinary people affected by this division. It follows a Hindu family that moves from Lahore to India, discovering a mansion that once belonged to a Muslim family. The plot thickens when they learn that an elderly Muslim woman still resides in the mansion, leading to a profound narrative about human relationships, emotions, and struggles.
Alongside Sunny Deol, the film features Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal, and Shabana Azmi. Karan Deol is also reported to be part of the cast.
