With this feat, Smith has now climbed to the 13th position in Test cricket’s all-time leading run-scorers list.
Earlier on January 29, 2025, Smith became the 15th cricketer in Test history to cross the 10,000-run mark. The very next day, he went on to overtake both Gavaskar and Younis Khan to cement his place among the greats.

Steve Smith’s Next Target: Steve Waugh’s Record
Now placed at 13th position in all-time highest Test run-scorers, Smith’s next target will be former Australian captain Steve Waugh, who accumulated 10,927 Test runs in his illustrious career. However, Smith will require a few more series to overtake Waugh’s tally.
