Srilanka: Campaigning for presidential elections intensifies

Sri Lanka People’s party (SLPP) Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa has asserted that groups frustrated before the defeat are conspiring to carry out baseless mudslinging propaganda and urged people to refrain from being misguided.

Addressing an election meeting on Sunday, Rajapaksa said that while he is educating the public on their policies, security, and economy, some are mudslinging despite not achieving anything while in power for 5 years.
He reasserted that he had revoked his dual citizenship, dispelling rumors on the contrary. Meanwhile, Minister Sajith Premadasa said although he studied both in England and in the USA, he never withdrew from his Sri Lankan citizenship.
He asserted an ‘original Sri Lankan’ will become the President of Sri Lanka on November 16, adding he doesn’t need tuition from anyone on citizenship as he is an ‘original Sri Lankan’.

Premadasa said that everything included in his manifesto will be carried out for the people. In related development, two persons have been arrested over distributing derogatory leaflets against SLPP candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Reportedly, one of the arrestees is a coordinating secretary employed under a Non-Cabinet Minister and supporter of Premadasa.
