If you’re a frequent highway traveler in India, there’s some great news on the horizon — and it could save you ₹7,000 a year. The Union Government has introduced a new FASTag Annual Pass for private vehicles, which promises to make your road trips smoother and more affordable than ever before.
Rolling out from 15 August 2025, this annual pass will benefit non-commercial vehicle owners across the country — offering major savings on National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE) tolls.
What is the FASTag Annual Pass?
The newly launched FASTag Annual Pass allows private car, jeep, and van owners to travel across India’s national highways and expressways at a flat cost of ₹3,000 per year.
It covers 200 toll crossings or one year of validity (whichever is reached first).
Instead of paying tolls on every trip, users can preload ₹3,000 and travel hassle-free.
This is a big win for those who regularly drive long distances — whether for business, leisure, or daily commutes.
How Much Can You Save?
According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the average toll fee per crossing is around ₹50. Normally, 200 trips would cost you around ₹10,000 per year.
With the FASTag Annual Pass:
You’ll pay just ₹3,000 for those 200 trips
That’s a direct saving of ₹7,000 annually — nearly 70% off your toll expenses!
Is It Compulsory?
No. The government has clarified that this pass is completely voluntary. If you’re happy with your existing pay-as-you-go FASTag, you’re free to continue using it.
If your current FASTag is correctly installed, linked to a valid registration number, and not blacklisted, you can activate the annual pass on the same tag.
There’s no need to buy a new tag.
Who is Eligible?
The FASTag Annual Pass is only valid for:
Private non-commercial vehicles: Cars, jeeps, and vans
It does not apply to commercial vehicles
Misuse with commercial vehicles will result in immediate deactivation
How to Apply for the FASTag Annual Pass
The government will soon provide a dedicated link for applications:
On the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways website
On the NHAI official website
Via the official Rajmarg Yatra app
The process will be entirely online, and users will not need to alter their existing FASTag setup.
How is This Different from Current Passes?
At present, drivers can get:
Monthly passes for ₹340 per toll plaza
Annual passes for ₹4,080 per toll plaza
However, these older passes are specific to individual toll plazas and require document verification.
In contrast, the new FASTag Annual Pass offers:
✅ Nationwide coverage across any NH or NE toll plaza
✅ No restriction to one toll booth
✅ No repetitive paperwork
Final Thoughts
With more Indians hitting the highways every year, this new FASTag Annual Pass could quickly become a must-have for frequent travelers. It not only saves money but also simplifies long-distance travel — perfect for road trippers, professionals, and families alike.
Starting 15 August 2025, you could be saving ₹7,000 a year while enjoying stress-free toll payments on every journey.
