Unseasonal Heat in Rajasthan as Barmer Records 34°C in January
With a shift in wind patterns, Rajasthan is experiencing unprecedented heat in January. On January 29, 2024, Barmer recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4°C, the highest in 13 years for the month. Similar temperature spikes were observed in Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Dungarpur, Bhilwara, and Chittorgarh, where the mercury hovered around 30°C.

Meteorologists indicate that this hot spell will continue for the next 2-3 days, with a potential change in weather from February 2-3 as a Western Disturbance is expected to impact the state.
Highest January Temperatures in 13 Years
Over the past 24 hours, Rajasthan has witnessed clear skies and intense sunshine, leading to a significant rise in daytime temperatures.
- Barmer recorded 34.4°C, the highest January temperature since 2012.
- The previous record for Barmer was 33.5°C in 2018.
- Udaipur hit 31.5°C, also the highest in 13 years for January.
- In 2018, Udaipur’s January record stood at 31.2°C.

Minimum Temperature Rises, Cold Mornings & Evenings Diminish
With rising maximum temperatures, nighttime temperatures have also increased, reducing the intensity of morning and evening chill.
- Sikar’s minimum temperature rose by 2°C, from 10°C to 12°C.
- Bikaner, Churu, and Chittorgarh recorded a 4-5°C rise in night temperatures.
- Baran, Fatehpur, and Mount Abu also reported a significant increase in minimum temperatures, bringing relief from extreme winter cold.

According to Radheyshyam Sharma, Director of Jaipur Meteorological Center, Rajasthan will continue to experience clear skies and strong sunshine over the next three days.
However, from February 2-3, a Western Disturbance is expected to impact the weather, leading to rain and thunderstorms in several regions, including:
