Shimla, May 7, 2025 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued adverse weather conditions across Himachal Pradesh until May 12, citing the impact of an active Western Disturbance. Rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected to affect multiple districts, with an Orange Alert in place for parts of the state.

On Wednesday morning, Kangra district witnessed persistent rainfall, with cloudy skies and light showers also reported in Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, Kullu, and Shimla. IMD has urged residents and travelers to stay cautious, especially in the hilly and low-lying regions.
Winds May Reach 60 km/h in Central Himachal Districts
According to IMD’s latest advisory, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Mandi districts are likely to experience moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ranging between 40–60 km/h. These areas are now under an Orange Alert, highlighting the risk of heavy downpours and localised damage.
Other districts including Solan, Chamba, Una, Kangra, Kinnaur, and Kullu may see light to moderate rainfall and thunder during the same period. Isolated hailstorm activity cannot be ruled out.
Statewide Temperature Drop Recorded
The persistent rainfall and cloud cover have led to a notable dip in day temperatures across the region:

Chamba recorded the highest at 36.9°C

Una followed at 34.6°C, while Bilaspur remained at 33.5°C

Dharamshala reported 28°C, Kangra at 31.8°C, and Solan at 27°C

Cooler destinations such as Manali (20°C) and Kelong (24.7°C) also felt the impact

Bharmaur reported 21.1°C, and Nahan stood at 30°C
With rain expected to continue over the next few days, temperatures are likely to remain below seasonal averages across Himachal Pradesh.
