Pratap Jayanti June 16; Numismatists write to PM Modi for currency note on Maharana Pratap

‘Malta issued world’s largest silver coin featuring Pratap in 2003’

Udaipur : Numismatists in Udaipur feel even after 478 years of the birth of one of the most revered, bravest Rajput kings in Indian history , Maharana Pratap, has not received the honours which he is entitled to. They cite the example of the world’s heaviest silver coin featuring Pratap’s picture.

“Malta, a small nation in Europe Union issued as part of the Knights of Malta Series, a silver coin featuring Maharana Pratap, in 2003, the silver coin showing the bust and name of the warrior king (AD 1540-1597) may not be a vintage item, but aliens have shown respect while our government has done nothing remarkable for the great warrior king” Vinay Bhanawat, a holder of many world records on currencies, coins and stamps claims. Bhanawat is the founder president of Mewar Philately Society which has recently written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a currency note to be issued to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great king.

“The coin by Malta government weighs around 1 kg and is made of pure silver 999 grade. The coin on one side shows the bust and name of the warrior king (AD 1540-1597). Only 100 coins were issued and one of it has been procured by me” Vinay told Udaipur Kiran.

European and other nations tap their history archives and even Indian culture to issue coins. Indian government issued 1re,10 re and 100 re coins in the series of heritage coins which featured Pratap and another one in 2015 to commemorate his 475th birth anniversary but these were all limited editions and hence only enthusiast coin collectors have access to them not the common people” Vinay said. The society has demanded from the union government to dedicate any denomination of currency note to commemorate Pratap’s valour.
