Police told to give Q system to Sabarimala Board

Kochi, April 23 : The Kerala High Court has ordered the police to hand over ‘Virtual Q’, a crowd management initiative to facilitate darshan for devotees at the famed Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala, to the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), the administrative body of temples in the state. Pronouncing the verdict, a Division Bench comprising Justice Anil K Narendran and Justice P G Ajithkumar on Friday asked the Board to take control of the system within three months. The Bench also directed the Kerala DGP and the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which provides technical support to the system, to take immediate steps to complete the handing over procedures. The court clarified that the police have the right to collect data from the ‘Virtual Q’ system to ensure law and order and that cannot be come under the violation of right to privacy. The TDB was also directed to ensure the privacy of data provided by devotees as per rules, informed sources said. DS MR
