Maha Kumbh Nagar, January 25 : Rudraksha holds immense spiritual significance for followers of Sanatan Dharma. According to Hindu scriptures, Rudraksha is believed to have originated from the tears of Lord Shiva. It is said that those who wear Rudraksha are shielded from adversities. While 14 types of Rudraksha are commonly found, the One-Mukhi Rudraksha is the most rare and valuable.

In the bustling lanes of the Kumbh Mela, Rudraksha fruits are being sold by numerous vendors. While the cost of a single One-Mukhi Rudraksha typically ranges between ₹3,000 and ₹4,000, visitors at the mela have a unique chance to purchase Rudraksha fruits for as little as ₹25.

What Is Rudraksha?

Rudraksha is the seed of a fruit that grows on the Rudraksha tree. In addition to its spiritual significance, Rudraksha is also known for its medicinal properties. It is believed to cure various ailments, protect against premature death, and safeguard the wearer from enemies.

Appearance:

The fruit of Rudraksha resembles a small blackish-brown berry. Its outer shell must be peeled to reveal the Rudraksha seed inside. Vendors at the mela demonstrate this process, peeling and cleaning the fruit in front of customers.

The Market at Kumbh Mela

Rudraksha fruits are widely available across the 25 sectors of the Kumbh Mela grounds. Vendors sell bundles of fruits at prices starting from ₹100 for three fruits, and with negotiation, buyers may even get five or six fruits for the same price.

Customer Experience:

Visitors are encouraged to handpick their fruits from large piles. Vendors then use a knife to peel the fruit, clean it with a brush, and hand over the seed to the buyer.

Rinku Kumar, a vendor at the Sangam area, explained,
“People often doubt the authenticity of Rudraksha. By selling the fruits, we eliminate any such doubts. Buyers see the entire process themselves.”

Luck Plays a Role

The rarity of the One-Mukhi Rudraksha adds an element of chance to the purchase. While most fruits yield five-Mukhi Rudraksha, there have been instances of One-Mukhi Rudraksha being discovered.

Dharmendra, another vendor, shared,
“In the past week, we’ve found two One-Mukhi Rudraksha. Mostly, buyers get five-Mukhi, but occasionally three or four-Mukhi seeds appear too.”

Visitors from various parts of India are drawn to this unique opportunity. Devendra, a pilgrim from Vijayawada, said,
“I don’t have the expertise to distinguish real from fake. But watching the Rudraksha being peeled in front of me gives assurance. I purchased three fruits and got two-Mukhi and three-Mukhi seeds.”

One-Mukhi Rudraksha: A Symbol of Divine Blessings

The One-Mukhi Rudraksha, considered the rarest and most valuable, is associated with the blessings of Lord Shiva. It is believed to bring peace, prosperity, and protection from fear and mortality. Worshipping a One-Mukhi Rudraksha is said to fill the family with happiness and eliminate all obstacles in life.
