Eight districts have announced holiday to educational institutions due to rain. In Vellore, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Sivaganga, schools and colleges will remain closed on Wednesday, while in Virudhunagar, Theni, Madurai and Ramanathapuram, schools alone have been announced holiday. Besides, some of the talukas in other districts have also declared a holiday.
The India Meteorology Department in Chennai has said in a bulletin, the low-pressure area in the sea in between Lakshadweep and the Maldives is set to further concentrate into a depression in the next twenty four hours and into a deep depression in the subsequent twenty-four hours. Under its influence, all the southern and the Delta districts and many of the northern districts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are set to receive fairly widespread rain Wednesday and Thursday.
