Udaipur : On the occasion of World Tribal Day, the workers and leaders of Adivasi Adhikar Manch courted arrest while staging a demonstration against the alleged oppressing policies of the state and central government. Vrinda Karat, national vice president of the organization addressed a rally and participated in a procession that passed through the main markets and streets of Udaipur city on Thursday.
The rally began from Hathopole and passed thorough Court choraha, Chetak circle and culminated at the divisional commissioner’s office at Saheli Marg. Addressing the rally Vrinda Karat said ” The government is ousting the tribal population from their valuable properties on the pretext of various welfare schemes while their lands are being sold to corporate houses at cheap rates to benefit the rich. Over one crore tribal people possess the forest lands but only 17 lakh people have been awarded the patta under the forest rights law. The remaining would be forced to evacuate from their habitat”.
She said that while the government is on one hand celebrating the tribal day but on the other hand Modi government is conspiring to sell their lands to the capitalists which is unjustified and illegal. Karat urged the tribal population to unite and raise voice against the oppressive policies.” Government schools do not have adequate number of teachers, the hostels are in bad shapes. Students are not getting the scholarships on time. It is necessary that tribals come out in large number and voice against these conditions” Karat said. Communist party workers, members of the Kisan Sabha etc joined Karat and courted arrest.
