Jammu And Kashmir Weather : Braces for a Week of Rain and Snowfall from January 29
Srinagar, January 29 : The cold wave has intensified in Jammu & Kashmir as overcast skies and chilling winds gripped the region. With minimum temperatures plummeting below freezing point in most parts of Kashmir and Ladakh, residents are bracing for an extended spell of rain and snowfall. The meteorological department has forecast a week-long wet spell from January 29 to February 5, with multiple Western Disturbances expected to impact the region.
Plummeting Temperatures Across Kashmir
The cold intensified in Kashmir, with popular hill station Gulmarg recording the lowest temperature at -2.5°C, followed by Qudwani (-2.7°C) and Pulwama (-1.7°C). Other key locations reported the following temperatures:
- Srinagar: 1.9°C
- Qazigund: -0.1°C
- Pahalgam: -0.8°C
- Sonmarg: -0.7°C
- Bandipora: 2.4°C (warmest in the valley)
Jammu Region Experiences Relatively Milder Chill
Due to cloud cover, minimum temperatures in Jammu region remained higher, with:
- Jammu City: 11.2°C
- Katra: 10.3°C
- Udhampur: 8.0°C
- Banihal: 3.3°C
- Batote & Kishtwar: 7.7°C
The coldest place in the region was Padar (-0.7°C).
Ladakh Records Freezing Cold
Ladakh witnessed bitterly cold conditions, with Drass emerging as the coldest location at -7.5°C, followed by:
- Leh: -5.9°C
- Kargil: -4.9°C
Weather Forecast: Snow and Rain for the Next Seven Days
According to the meteorological department, light snowfall and rain are expected at scattered locations on the night of January 29 and early morning of January 30.
- January 31: Scattered rain expected.
- February 1-2: Light rain and snowfall likely at isolated locations.
- February 3: Mostly cloudy, with snowfall in higher altitudes.
- February 4-5: Intermittent light rain and snowfall forecast.
From January 29 onwards, minimum temperatures are expected to rise slightly, while maximum temperatures may drop to normal levels.

Authorities advise travelers and residents in hilly areas to stay prepared for possible disruptions due to snowfall. The weather conditions may impact road connectivity, especially in high-altitude regions like Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and Pahalgam.
