Jahangirnagar University in Dhaka shutdown indefinitely amid violence

The students were staging a sit in before the house of the Vice Chancellor of the University demanding her resignation on corruption charges since yesterday. About 20 students and teachers were hurt in the attack.

However, the Jahangirnagar Unit President of BCL denied that Chhatra league members attacked the agitating students. He said that there are allegations that some students are affiliated to Chhatra Shibir were involved in the agitation and they want a a Shibir-free campus.

The BCL is the student wing of the ruling Awami League. Chhatra Shibir is the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. The Shibir is alleged to have links with terrorist group JMB.

The students have been demonstrating on campus since August 23, demanding the removal of the university VC Prof Farzana for her alleged involvement in corruption and mismanagement of Tk 1,445-crore campus development project.
