India Reaches New Heights in Space Navigation with GSLV-F15/NVS-02 Mission

Sriharikota, January 29 : The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has achieved yet another historic milestone with the successful launch of its 100th mission. At 6:23 AM today, ISRO’s GSLV-F15 rocket successfully carried and deployed the NVS-02 satellite from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

Hailing this achievement, ISRO declared that India has reached new heights in space navigation.

The NVS-02 satellite, weighing 2,250 kg, is part of India’s next-generation navigation system, developed entirely by ISRO scientists. It will play a crucial role in:

Speaking on this historic achievement, Chairman V. Narayanan congratulated the entire ISRO team, stating:

“This was the first mission of the year, and we have started with success. The NVS-02 satellite will remain operational for 10 years. Since the days of Vikram Sarabhai, ISRO has continued setting new records. Over the years, we have developed six generations of launch vehicles. The first-ever launch in 1979, led by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, laid the foundation for our success. Today, Sriharikota has witnessed its 100th mission, during which we have deployed 548 satellites in space.”

He further highlighted ISRO’s key missions, including:

Dr. Singh also acknowledged ISRO’s journey from its humble beginnings under Vikram Sarabhai and Satish Dhawan to becoming a global space leader. He emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to “unlock the space sector” has propelled India into an era of limitless possibilities in space exploration.
