Virat Kohli, Romario Shepherd Shine as Bengaluru Registers Fourth Straight Win
Bengaluru Posts Massive 213 After Kohli-Shepherd Heroics
Singapore, May 3 In a nail-biting 52nd match of IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by just 2 runs to secure the top position on the points table with 16 points. While this marked RCB’s fourth consecutive win, it also confirmed CSK’s exit from the playoff race with their fourth straight defeat.

Batting first at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB posted a formidable total of 213 runs. Openers Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell provided a fiery start, adding 97 runs in just 9.5 overs. Bethell scored a fluent 53 before being dismissed, triggering a mini-collapse with Devdutt Padikkal (17), captain Rajat Patidar (11), and Jitesh Sharma (7) falling cheaply. Kohli, however, continued to anchor the innings and notched up his seventh fifty of the season before being dismissed for 62.
The real fireworks came in the death overs as Romario Shepherd smashed an unbeaten 53 off just 14 deliveries, including several towering sixes. Tim David remained not out on 2, helping RCB cross the 200-run mark.
For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana impressed with three wickets, while Noor Ahmad and Sam Curran claimed one each.
CSK’s Valiant Chase Falls Agonizingly Short
Chasing 214, Chennai Super Kings began with aggression as openers Ayush Mhatre and Sheik Rashid took the score to 51 in just 4.3 overs. Rashid fell for 14, and Sam Curran followed soon after, managing only 5 runs. At 56/2, Ravindra Jadeja joined Mhatre and the duo stitched a crucial 114-run partnership off 64 balls.
Mhatre narrowly missed a century, getting dismissed for 94. The middle and lower order failed to provide the finishing touch as Dewald Brevis (0) and MS Dhoni (12) departed cheaply. The chase came down to the final over with 13 required off 3 balls. Shivam Dube hit a six off a no-ball on the first delivery, but failed to find boundaries on the next two, as CSK finished at 211/6 — just two runs short.
RCB Bowlers Hold Nerve in Final Overs
RCB’s bowling unit maintained composure under pressure, with Lungi Ngidi emerging as the standout performer, claiming 3 wickets. Krunal Pandya and Yash Dayal contributed with a wicket apiece, ensuring CSK couldn’t capitalize on the momentum built by Mhatre and Jadeja.
With this win, RCB solidified their position at the top of the table and boosted their playoff chances, while CSK’s campaign effectively ended in disappointment despite valiant efforts.
