Intense Cold Wave Grips Rajasthan: Fatehpur Hits Freezing Point at 0 Degrees Celsius
Rajasthan is currently under the grip of an intense cold wave, with several cities witnessing record-low temperatures. From Sikar to Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Karauli, the minimum temperatures have plummeted to a chilling range of 2 to 5 degrees Celsius. In the coldest regions, like Fatehpur and Mount Abu, the mercury has dipped to freezing point, painting a vivid picture of Rajasthan’s frosty winter.
Temperature Plummets Across the State
In the past 24 hours, Sikar recorded its lowest temperature of the month. The weather experts have predicted that this biting cold wave is expected to persist for at least three more days. The frigid conditions are primarily attributed to the dominance of northern winds, which have swept across Rajasthan and neighboring states, intensifying the chill.
However, a glimmer of relief appears on the horizon. Beginning on 28th January, the influence of western winds is expected to grow stronger. This change in weather patterns may result in a gradual increase in both daytime and nighttime temperatures, bringing respite from the severe cold by the end of January.
Northern Winds Amplify Cold in Plains
Northern winds have exacerbated the already freezing conditions across Rajasthan, pulling temperatures down below 5 degrees Celsius in districts like Fatehpur, Sikar, Karauli, Dausa, Nagaur, and Churu. The state’s popular hill station, Mount Abu, recorded a bone-chilling 1.8 degrees Celsius, making it one of the coldest places in Rajasthan.
Chilling Winds Create Daytime Cold
Despite clear skies across Rajasthan, icy winds kept the daytime temperatures significantly low. Major cities like Jaipur, Sikar, Kota, Udaipur, Baran, Sirohi, Hanumangarh, and Alwar experienced shivers even during daylight hours.
Here are some notable temperature records:
- Jaipur: 24.8°C (Maximum)
- Sikar: 21.5°C (Maximum)
- Udaipur: 22.4°C (Maximum)
- Kota: 23.4°C (Maximum)
- Jaisalmer: 25.5°C (Maximum)
- Jodhpur: 25.8°C (Maximum)
Cities like Barmer and Jalore experienced slightly warmer days, with temperatures hovering at 27.4°C and 26.6°C, respectively.
Cold Wave Expected to Linger for Two More Days
The Jaipur Meteorological Center predicts that the cold wave conditions will persist for the next two days, i.e., on 27th and 28th January. Afterward, northern winds are expected to weaken, and western winds will gradually take over, leading to a slight rise in temperatures.
29th January onwards, the weather in Rajasthan is expected to remain dry, and the cold intensity will likely diminish.
Impact on Daily Life
The severe cold conditions have disrupted daily routines across the state. Farmers in regions like Churu and Sikar are facing challenges due to frost affecting crops. Residents are bundling up in layers of woolens, and the demand for heating solutions has surged significantly. Meanwhile, tourists visiting places like Mount Abu and Udaipur are braving the freezing weather, adding an element of thrill to their journeys.
Precautions During Intense Cold Weather
During such extreme weather conditions, it is essential to take precautions to avoid health risks:
- Dress in Layers: Wear multiple layers of clothing, including thermals, jackets, and woolen scarves.
- Stay Indoors: Limit outdoor activities, especially during early morning and late evening.
- Use Heaters Safely: Ensure proper ventilation when using heaters to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink warm fluids and stay hydrated to maintain body temperature.
- Check on Vulnerable Individuals: Elderly people, children, and those with chronic illnesses need extra care.
