
New Delhi, February 11: India’s gross direct tax collection has increased by 4.09% year-on-year, reaching over ₹22.78 lakh crore for the financial year 2025-26 (from April 1, 2025, to February 10, 2026). This compares to ₹21.88 lakh crore during the same period last year.
According to the Income Tax Department, refunds amounting to ₹3.34 lakh crore were issued during this review period, resulting in a net tax collection of ₹19.43 lakh crore. This reflects a year-on-year growth of 9.40%.
In the previous year, the net tax collection for the same period was ₹17.76 lakh crore, with refunds totaling ₹4.11 lakh crore issued by the department.
The data released by the Income Tax Department indicates that the net corporate tax collection during this period stood at ₹8.89 lakh crore, up from ₹7.77 lakh crore in the same timeframe last year.
Net non-corporate tax collection reached ₹10.03 lakh crore, compared to ₹9.47 lakh crore during the same period last year.
Additionally, the government collected ₹50,279 crore in Securities Transaction Tax (STT) during this period, slightly up from ₹49,201 crore in the previous year.
So far in the financial year 2025-26, the government has received ₹358.44 crore in gross other taxes, including ₹32.06 crore in refunds, leading to a net collection of ₹326.38 crore.
Earlier, the government released GST collection figures, showing a 6.2% year-on-year increase in gross GST collection for January, reaching ₹1.93 lakh crore, compared to ₹1.82 lakh crore in January 2025.
According to the government’s information, the gross GST collection from April to January 2025-26 totaled ₹18.43 lakh crore, marking an 8.3% year-on-year increase.
In January, the net GST collection was ₹1.70 lakh crore, reflecting a 7.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Since the beginning of the financial year 2026, the net GST collection has risen by 6.8%, totaling ₹15.95 lakh crore.
